Like 2004, when the Flames went to the Stanley Cup Final, I’ve gotten into the habit this year of following a professional sports team. (I’m a little embarassed to admit it.)
I work on my laptop with the game on in the background. Or, if I miss it, I’ll sometimes watch the replay rebroadcast Game in an Hour. Even better than in real time, I’d say.
AND … if I miss that … I’ll watch the highlights on the NHL Flames TV website. It seems to play better in Safari than in Firefox.
At the trade deadline, experts seem unanimous that the Calgary Flames made the best moves.
… By acquiring center Olli Jokinen and defenseman Jordan Leopold, general manager Darryl Sutter made the biggest moves of the day. Sutter made the statement that his Flames are a legitimate Stanley Cup contender this season. …

… Olli Jokinen’s first game in Flames silks. Two goals.
Jordan Leopold’s first game back in Flames silks. One goal.
Michael Cammalleri’s first game ever in Philadelphia. Three points, including one goal.
It added up to a strikingly easy 5-1 triumph over the Flyers in National Hockey League action, making Calgary general manager Darryl Sutter look like a genius in the process. …
Darryl Sutter’s not been called a genius often. Let’s let him have his day.

How are the City of Champions teams doing this year, by the way? The Oilers? The Eskimos?
