Bald Eagle vs Golden Eagle

Big argument at my folk’s house in Parksville, B.C.

The boys spotted a bird while fishing off Vancouver Island. And debate rages whether it was a Golden. Or a juvenile Bald Eagle. The two look very similar.

Leave a comment if you have something to add. Are Golden Eagles resident in Vancouver Island?

  1. Since moving to Campbell River 3 years ago My daughter and I have been blessed with sighting golden Eagles twice. Once flying overhead on Jubilee Pky and the second time at the dump. The sighting at the dump was magnificent. He was perched on the bulldozer and all we saw initially was his head and body just ‘there’. We were not sure if he was just a juvenile bald eagle or not until he took off. He flew towards the ravens and bald eagles that had congregated on a garbage pile. His wings slowly flapping it was demonstrated quickly just how much bigger he was than the other birds when they took off away from him. His wing span was at the very least six feet across.
