I read an interesting article some time ago, which indicated another problem with this pairing of obesity and poverty. Poor families end up shopping at convenience stores due to transport issues. They don’t have vehicles, not time to wait for public transport to carry them to grocery stores. The cost of “good” foods at these convenience stores is astronomical, so most end up purchasing junk foods. The cycle continues, they continue to be poor, and they continue to eat unhealthy items.
Reminds me of when I was a kid. Watching the First Nations people “shop” for groceries at 7-11. But only on “pay day”.
I recall this too….sadly
