adding a U.S. dollar account

It was easy.

I dropped in to TD Canada Trust. They quickly added a U.S. Dollar Daily Interest Chequing Account.

This account is perfect if you:

Often make purchases in U.S. dollars
Receive cheques in U.S. dollars
Visit the U.S. a few times each year
Have U.S.-based investments

I’m hoping to SAVE a few bucks avoiding exchange fees.

The only cost on my account is $1 / transaction.

There is another option — Borderless Plan $4.95 / month. I don’t need that much account.

Can you take $US out of machines in Canada (e.g. Vancouver airport)? Can you take $US out of an ATM in the US? We were surprised that we couldn’t with our first set of $US accounts at Royal Bank. We finally opened new accounts in the US, in a US branch of Royal Bank, which gave us different client cards which did allow us to do this. (sigh)
