NBC – Terry Fox or Michael J Fox?

Dana is frustrated with NBC TV coverage of the Olympics.

One symbolic example of how they’re blundering through the money losing spectacle.

Terry Fox is a Canadian legend whose cross-Canada run, the Marathon of Hope, inspired Canadians while raising money for cancer research. Michael J. Fox is a Canadian actor who starred in the legendary “Back to the Future” trilogy and has become an advocate for Parkinson’s disease research. They’re pretty easy to confuse for each other. Right, NBC?

It’s understandable to misspeak the name during a live setting, so we can give Meredith Vieira a pass. But the graphics are a little harder to explain, especially considering the broadcast actually showed Terry Fox before switching to the “Family Ties” star. …

I can’t even be bothered watching much of the Olympics now. Nothing is LIVE and the results are already in hours before it is broadcast here. I could understand the delay a bit in 2008 – Beijing, time change and all, but this is ridiculous – I live in the Pacific Time Zone and still can’t see anything LIVE. Pathetic. NBC should be ashamed.

I AM SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT TERRY FOX! He made an effort to cross Canada but he was also bad tempered, antisocial (wouldn’t have anything to do with other cancer patients) and sulky. Now with this latest outburst from his unpleasant mother, it seems his sense of superiority runs in the family.

I am from BC and Rick Hanson, Michael J Fox and Wayne Gretzky are far better Canadians. The Fox family could learn a thing or two about humility from them.

So because he was grumpy about dying and being constantly in pain, his efforts should be discounted? The only sense of superiority here is coming from your asinine condemnation of someone you never knew who achieved more in his few years than you likely ever will. And don’t kid yourself into thinking Gretzky is all smiles and sunshine. He’s a real person and has grumpy anti-social days like anyone else.

And NBC has the most PATHETIC Olympic coverage of all time. It’s like a token announcement at the end of prime time. Sorry USA, you’re really getting the shaft on event coverage (in an odd reversal for US/Canada TV)

Sue, wow. All I can say is wow. Please let me know when you plan to run the length of a Marathon every day for 143 days and I will be there to cheer you on. Especially if you are raising funds for Cancer research. Whether you have two legs or one, this is an amazing feat! Maybe you should look a bit deeper and see what Terry was running for – a cure for Cancer. Someone who puts themselves through what he did physically and mentally can’t be doing that for himself. I am just stunned by your post and saddened.
