Google v Apple

The big fight in coming years will be Google challenging Apple. It’s war, I’d say.

Many iPhone users will be tempted to switch to a Google phone.

I’m expecting Google will win, long term, because that company is far more “open”.

Actually, consumers will win. Competition is what drives innovation.

I think Google will prevail as well. Open platform apps…can’t beat it. Apple and AT&T are very restrictive and secretive. It doesn’t bother me on the surface; but when I think of the times when they’ve removed apps for no apparent reason, it makes me think they are too assertive. Punishing companies that annoy them by removing their apps from itunes after the fact just penalizes the customer who loved that app. Then again, their operating system smooth and the interface is super easy to use. Is it good business? Sure, they’re making tons of money.

On the other hand, I jokingly call Google ‘Skynet’ along with 983687256823565 other people because it has become self aware! I love their open policies, their refusal to China to restrict searches, and general belief that if it’s possible their customers will have it. I hear their phones require a tad longer to use flawlessly, some tech no-how (though minor) is a possible issue at first. I don’t like Google having all my info though, to better ‘serve’ me aka bother me with ads.

Same amount of control, different methods I guess. They both make me slightly nervous…I appreciate what their smartphones can do. I just don’t own one. (I’m tied to Sprint for awhile yet haha!)
