I spent almost 2 weeks in the port city. My first night I met a group of architecture students from Beijing. They come regularly to Netherlands to study the creative gambles here.
During World War II, the German army invaded the Netherlands on 10 May 1940. Adolf Hitler had hoped to conquer the country in just one day, but his forces met unexpectedly fierce resistance. The Dutch army was finally forced to capitulate on 14 May 1940, following Hitler’s bombing Rotterdam and threatening to bomb other Dutch cities.

Completely unrelated, but after having watched it again, start to finish, for likely the 10th time, I have to say that the Last Samurai has got to be one of my most favorite movies of all time. Well acted, amazing photography, and an incredibly poignant and timely message about service, compassion, faith, and ultimately honor that transcends the script or the events, which are loosely based on the Satsuma Rebellion
I would say it’s Cruise at his best, but he does not overshadow Ken Watanabe, who plays Katsumoto magnificently.
This is one of the rare movies that I never tire of watching, and every time I watch it, I gain something new from it.
I agree. Loved that film. And loved the New Zealand scenery standing in for Japan.
