Babylon’s Ashes – Expanse book 6

The Expanse on TV is better than the books.

For some reason I just can’t get hooked on the story telling of of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, who publish as S. A. Corey.

Too long. Too many characters. Too much talk. Not enough action.

Also — why the weird book titles?

I was happy to see James Holden and crew back together again. With Bobbie Draper.

It’s now a combined fleet of ships from EarthMars, and the Outer Planets Alliance fighting the Free Navy, run by BAD GUY Marco Inaros.

I’m looking forward to sixth and supposedly final season of The Expanse on Prime which should be based on this book.

Best character – Amos Burton.

Cas Anvar as Alex Kamal will be gone. Charged with multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault.

Red Rock – season 1

Red Rock is an Irish crime drama set in the fictional seaside town of Red Rock near Dublin

Very good.

I’ve watched the first 28 episodes of 176.

Boyko Krastanov as Garda Adrijan Kosos is my favourite character.

But the entire ensemble cast is great.

If I had to AWARD anyone, however, it would be the BAD GUY — Sean Mahon as Garda Sergeant Brian McGonigle.

A Painted House by John Grisham

Certainly Grisham is an excellent story teller.

I was charmed by the simplicity of this tale. It reminded me more of something that might be written by John Steinbeck.

Inspired by his childhood in Arkansas, A Painted House (2001) is Grisham’s first major work outside the legal thriller genre in which he established himself.

Set in the late summer and early fall of 1952, its story is told through the eyes of seven-year-old Luke Chandler, the youngest in a family of cotton farmers struggling to harvest their crop and earn enough to settle their debts. …

It was made into a television film in 2003, starring Scott Glenn and Logan Lerman.

Superstore seasons 3-5

Though I tried to switch to serious shows on Netflix and Prime, Dina Fox made me flip back to Superstore.

YES … it’s junk food TV. 😀

My favourite TV character since Sue Sylvester in Glee.

I’ll watch final season 6 too, I’m sure. Superstore during the COVID pandemic.

America Ferrera as Amy Sosa departs.

Just One Look by Harlan Coben

Just One Look (2004) is a stand-alone novel.

A woman’s husband drives off one night. And doesn’t come home.

What emerges, slowly, is a fascinating and incredibly complicated plot filled with interesting characters.

I couldn’t guess whodunnit.

BUT … for me it was probably 40% too convoluted.

Coben is a good writer, however. I like how he handles technology.

I’ll keep reading.

The book was made into a TV series in Europe. Available in both French and German.

Criminal UK (TV series)

Criminal is a series of four Netflix police procedural anthology TV series set in 4 countries. In 4 languages.

All 4 language series were shot on the same set in Madrid

Each episode is a stand-alone psychological drama, consisting of the interrogation of an individual by a team of police investigators. Every scene is confined to just three areas in a single location; a police interrogation room, a darkened viewing room that looks into the interrogation room through a one-way mirror, and the hallway and stairwell outside the rooms.

Dialogue is the story.

Very cool.

I watched 7 episodes of the U.K. series.

Nemesis Games by James S. A. Corey

Leviathan Wakes

Caliban’s War

Abaddon’s Gate

Cibola Burn

Nemesis Games (2015) is the 5th book in their The Expanse series.

The best, so far, I’d say. (None of the book titles, however, make much sense to me.)

A simpler plot. Our 4 heroes go their separate ways while the Rocinante is down for long-term maintenance.

I new and engaging BAD GUY.

The Expanse TV series is better. Season 5 is based on this book.

It’s a PAIN having to wait a week between episodes. Season 6 will be the last.

Limitless – season 1

Limitless is an American comedy-drama television series (2015) based on the 2011 film of the same name,

It stars Jake McDorman as Brian Finch, burnout and struggling musician, who discovers the power of a mysterious nootropic drug by the name of NZT-48.

This drug unlocks the full potential of the human brain and gives its user enhanced mental faculties.

Though it only lasted one season, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Very funny. And great special effects.

Bradley Cooper has a small role, so he must have thought it had potential.

To tell the truth, it was Jennifer Carpenter who I likde best.

I watched all 8 seasons of Dexter. Jennifer played the serial killer’s sister. And later married him in real life.

Superstore – seasons 1 & 2

Love it.

What a genius concept. Making fun of stores like Walmart and Target. 😀

I’m definitely going to keep watching.

My favourite character by far is Canadian comedian Lauren Ash who plays Dina Fox.

Excellent too is comedian, actor, writer, and producer Colton Dunn as Garrett McNeil, a vet who’s in a wheelchair.

Sandra is pretty fantastic too.

… and Brett. Brett steals every scene.
