Bill Gates: Steve Jobs can’t win

with one comment

Bill Gates is neither stupid nor evil.

But my God he got a lot of things wrong in his tenure as world’s richest man.

This quote, recently released, from an interview 12yrs ago on Cringely:

“What I can’t figure out is why he (Steve Jobs) is even trying (to be the CEO of Apple)? ” wondered Bill. “He knows he can’t win.” …

  1. Bill Gates and crew were tremendous bullies in the PC marketplace for many years in an environment that was far inferior to Apple’s GUI. Before they got hammered by the Justice Department, they acted like the Mafia of personal computing. I was working on cross platform software with producers and MS was disabling products they felt competed with something they were selling like “Office”, by ‘slipping the system’ with constant Windows updates.

I also suspected they were in collusion with PC makers to force updating Windows on your PC to the point it gobbled all the assets your 3 year old PC could muster to run, thus forcing you out to buy a faster more powerful box you really did not need for word processing.

MS charged a lot for an OS that was hobbled together code over several years that was unstable and crashed frequently. It made me very angry because it wasted so much of my valuable time. I suspect I was not the only person who got angry over the MS OS and their bullying. They were like PC communists operating within a democracy.

It’s finally catching up with them and people are drifting away as Macs can do everything that crummy MS OS can do and better! Who needs them? Nobody.
