Chrome vs Safari

In June, one test found that Chrome was only slightly faster than Safari on the Mac.

… I saw no compelling reason to switch to Chrome.

But in a real world wifi test on my personal Mac, Chrome was more than twice as fast as Safari downloading measured by speedtest.net.

Loading a YouTube video in both, the speed advantage of Chrome was obvious.

I’ll start using Chrome for video starting now. (With FlashBlock installed, of course.)

Because I use LastPass, it would be easy for me to switch over completely. … But using different browsers for different purposes might be the best solution of all.

UPDATE – I’ve switched permanently. Chrome is now my primary browser.

Interesting. I use Firefox almost exclusively on my Mac. But I do start up Chrome about once a day, mostly to give myself a chance to log into things as a different user simultaneously.

Chrome is nice, and I can use it, but I am used to Firefox, and the fact that it is the same on Windows and Mac is a plus. Not that Chrome isn’t…

And I have yet to notice a speed difference, but then I am on a Quad core on a fast network….

    1. I have Firefox open all the time too, using it exclusively for updating the blogs. Writing to those databases tends to be slow at the best of times.

Of the interfaces I slightly prefer Safari, probably because it’s somehow more “Mac”.

I’m a firefox user too- I like the adblock plus, the script block and the flashblock. I imagine that they’re all available for chrome too.
