cordless vacuum cleaner for Christmas

I gave my parents a  Makita 18V LXT Vacuum Cleaner.

It works well for small, fast clean-ups.

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

You need clean it frequently.

3 Ah is the best battery.

If you don’t already have a Makita battery or charger, the whole set-up will cost about C$200.

Thanks Markos and Keith for the idea.

My brother Rob gave me a comped room night over the Christmas holidays with oceanside view.

Much appreciated.

That’s the promotion photo from my room.

Here’s the weather while I was there walking oceanfront.

Christmas dinner 2018

Rob and Yvonne hosted. Bev and Reg both contributed plenty of goodies.

As always, cards were a big part of the evening.

The food was GREAT. Traditional turkey dinner. A huge bird.

I ate too many desserts.

Reg’s home made chocolate covered candied ginger was the highlight for me.

Christmas Eve 2018

For some reason  🙂  Mom decided to host a burger night for Christmas Eve: steak, chicken and salmon.

It was delicious. 🍷

I bought an ice-cream cake at DQ for dessert. 🎂

Mom wanted a nuclear family photo for Gary McCharles who’s working on genealogy.

Ho Ho Ho.

Jill Prendergast’s Celebration of Life

I’m sad to be missing the event in Calgary. (I’ll be getting released from hospital. Hernia surgery.)

Jill was one of my favourite people. Jill was one of everyone’s favourite people.

My Mom, a close friend, was unable to travel to Calgary for it. But I helped her put together a remembrance letter.

the McCharles boys

With my brother Randy in town, Mom and Dad began telling us stories of our childhood. Some I’d never heard before.

A neighbour in Saskatoon called the police on Randy when he was 4-years-old.

Sounds like the brother on the left got in the least trouble. And he was cutest. 😀

The strap — school corporal punishment — was banned when I was in Jr. High School. I’d forgotten that Mr. Zemp, our hated Math teacher at A.E. Cross, was fired for continuing to hit children with a leather belt.

I never got the strap. Goodie, goodie … and lucky.

My Mom did get the strap once. My Dad says he got the strap all the time growing up in rough and tumble Timmons, Ontario.

One time the Shop teacher threw something at my Dad. He picked it up and threw it back at teacher. Yep, Dad was banned from Shop for the year. Scheduled Friday afternoons he went to the movies each week instead.

The bunnies of Parksville

Rabbits are not endemic. The hundreds running around Parksville are descendants of pet rabbits escaped or released to the wild.

They are cute.

Unfortunately a lethal rabbit virus is decimating the population on Vancouver Island.
