Sunrise over the Mekong:

I was up very early every day due to Jetlag. Went to bed at 8PM most nights after a dusk walk along the river.

The main impression visitors get of Phnom Penh is the zany, dangerous traffic.

Only one day did we get out of town. The countryside is peaceful and gorgeous.

hiking Stone Mountain, Georgia

I heard the best hike close to Atlanta was Stone Mountain.

Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis

Some say this is the largest exposed granite ‘stone’ in the world.

Did a trail run UP and AROUND the monolith when I was in transit a few weeks ago.

Waldorf Mayfest

Waldorf is some sort of Hippy school, still refusing to acknowledge the existence of electronics.

On the other hand, these educators have embraced the modern values of “the thrill of victory… and the agony of defeat… the human drama of athletic competition …”.

(Duffy Waldorf was a professional athlete, after all.)

Waldorf won the soccer championships this year.

It was a good final game. This guy got injured on a slide tackle, however.

He was eventually hanged (Fagin, not Henry) though in some stage versions Fagin escapes with the Artful Dodger.

Henry added his own personality to the Fagin role — one in the past performed by Alec Guinness and Ben Kingsley.

On May 30th 2008, it was announced by Andrew Lloyd Weber and John Barrowman on Friday Night with Jonathon Ross that in the upcoming theatre production of ‘Oliver’, Rowan Atkinson will play the character of Fagin.

Orangutan – real or Photoshop?

… we ran this picture with the headline Orangutan Caught Red-Handed Using Technology, Fishing with a Spear. and wrote “For those who thought that humans were the only ones using tools…” Commenters were not impressed, suggesting that it was a photoshop job. …

animal crossings in Banff National Park

This is the actual turn-off From Banff, Alberta, Canada to the #1 highway to Calgary. Elk decided to take the road.

elk-banff.jpg

Parks Canada builds special bridges so animals can cross. But these elk went the EASY way.

… Yes, the existing wildlife crossing structures are working! Through the long-term data collected, animals continue to teach us how to build better fencing and crossing structures to meet their different lifestyle needs. This learning has gone into the current twinning project. Worldwide, other transportation engineers are also putting this learning on the ground. …

no turn unstoned … Joseph the Dreamer

Saw a TERRIBLE play tonight.

These actors are obviously amateurs.

It was called Joseph the Dreamer, loosely based on the Biblical tale of Joseph, son of Jacob, famous for his coat of many colours.

The lead was sold in to slavery by his brothers, later to become chief adviser to the Egyptian Pharaoh. Ya, right.

Does anyone else remember a juggler in the Bible?

I posted more photos of the play on Flickr. There’s a gap, though, where I fell asleep.

Lesson learned: No play asking the audience to fold chairs after the performance, is ever going to win a Tony.
