June 12th Barbecue workshop Calgary

All-day, hands-on workshop will indoctrinate students in the ways of championship barbecue

In response to overwhelming popular demand, barbecue evangelist Rockin’ Ronnie Shewchuk is teaming up with Weber Grills and Calgary’s The Cookbook Co. Cooks to stage Barbecue Academy, a deluxe all-day, hands-on workshop in Southern-style championship barbecue. The smokin’ session will be held on Sunday, June 12 at Glamorgan Community Centre. …

“Barbecue Academy is a great way to learn and have fun at the same time,” says Ronnie. “Students will not only get a chance to prep and cook championship-quality chicken and ribs, they’ll present their finished products to a panel of judges for a chance to win cheap plastic trophies, just like in a real barbecue contest!” …

Everything students need will be provided, including knives, tongs, cutting boards, oven mitts and aprons. The workshop will run from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12 at Glamorgan Community Centre. Tuition is $295 per person.

Starbucks coffee is INEXPENSIVE

#Starbucks

Katie Couric recently interviewed Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz on CBS Sunday Morning and asked him if he thought the company had a “tin ear” to what people were going through with the recession. Perhaps, she suggested, they couldn’t afford to pay “$5 on their coffee every day.” Schultz’s response was to laugh. You see, Starbucks coffee only costs $1.50. …

Consumerist

The Starbucks CEO was widely mocked for that quote. But fact is, … he’s right.

IF you buy a Starbucks card …

IF you drink the cheap stuff, Pike’s filter coffee …

… then Starbucks is not much more expensive than McDonald’s coffee.

IF you want a refill …

… it’s FREE for me in Canada. $.50 for me in some other nations.

At Tim Horton’s in Canada refills are full price.

I love Starbucks, especially their reliable, high speed free WiFi.

survived the KFC Double Down

As you recall, the KFC Double Down sandwich was ruled a ‘crime against humanity’ in the Hague.

Forcing someone to eat one is now considered a War Crime.

They are SO illegal that Barry Bonds denies ever eating one.

… yet in Cleveland I was able to purchase one under the counter. Nudge nudge, wink wink.

Apparently some rogue KFC franchises are still carrying them.

Mezza Mediterranean Grill, Calgary

For years I’ve been raving about the best donairs in Calgary. A hole in the wall near the downtown library.

The name has changed over the years, but not the food. And they’ve recently started opening Saturdays 10am – 2pm.

Black Bear Diner

With nearly 50 locations in the Western United States, the Black Bear is my quintessential American family restaurant.

Pork rips and tri-tip (“Santa Maria”) steak combo. Mashed potatoes and some surreal white gravy. Wonderful corn muffin.

That fulfills 33% of your daily caloric requirements, … if you weigh 850lbs.

Denny’s Restaurant shout out

Denny’s Restaurants – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner 24/7.

In the past I’d rank Denny’s at the very bottom of my favourite restaurants list.

But I have to admit, it’s been very good the past 2 or 3 visits. And very popular.

Pike Place Market, Seattle

I take the ferry over to Victoria Friday morning.

Walking through historic Pike Place Market en route to the 8am departure, I’ll grab a Pike Roast at Starbucks. The original opened here in 1971.
