hiking Iceland in June

Locked and loaded.

I fly out of Halifax (after Gymnastics Nationals) on the red eye June 2nd one way direct to Reykjavik. ($315 on Iceland Air)

There are even cheaper fares out of Boston and Chicago on the discount airline, Iceland Express, but I had no luck contacting them by email or phone.

It’s not my style to book a flight so early … but both the last two summers I found that airfares skyrocket around June 1st. And those flights fill quickly.

Laugavegur hike

I understand weather is a factor.

more interesting Iceland photos

I’ll be in Iceland a couple of weeks. Then likely fly on to Europe.

John Long

John wasn’t able to get from Rotterdam to Calgary for the funeral. But he was able to talk via Skype to Jude, Ed Glaser and myself.

John hopes to be able to attend any memorial hike scheduled by the Glaser family summer 2011.

It was nice to catch up with John since I’d not seen him in about 5yrs. He’s been M.I.A.

Starting in May he has a working “sabbatical” with IBM in New York. … Actually the “sabbatical” is an Anglo-American concept not common in the rest of the world. He’ll actually be working.

arrived Jeju, Korea

Haevichi Resort on Jeju island is pretty posh. One of the finer hotels that’s ever allowed me to check in.

I’m an invited guest of the first World Trails Conference and Walking festival held over the next 3 days. I’ll stay another 6 days to do some hiking.

We’re sharing the resort with the ladies of the European Golf Masters Tournament this weekend.

arrived Naples …

I love the redeye charters from North America direct to Europe, arriving early morning. That way you can connect to your final destination arriving same day.

Last year I got to Cortina, Italy in the daylight.

This year to Napoli, Italia just at dusk.

Famed for its cousine, there are only two kinds of restaurants here: pizzerias and non-pizzerias.

I’m here to hike the Amalfi coast.
