🙂

A young buck has been resting in my Dad’s yard when not grazing.

🙂 Delicious.

Went salmon fishing with Dad out of Port Alberni, B.C.
Within 10 minutes of putting line down to 50 feet he caught one of the biggest salmon of his life.
He had it in the net 3 times … each time thrashing out.
The third time was the charm. It managed to break the 25 pound test line. And escape. 😦
… It was a beautiful day on the water. At least.
Happily, he did catch another smaller salmon.
Otherwise backyard venison might have been added to the menu.
Delicious.
He’ll get the BIG one next time. Perhaps during the September long weekend derby.
From 60 applications this year organizers selected 15 soloists and 7 doubles teams. The winner in each category in Parksville is sent on to the World Championship of Sand Sculpting the following year in Atlantic City.
The theme this time is ‘heroes and villains’.
I probably should have voted for Batman and the Joker.
Instead I voted for a more complex sculpture featuring a monster who wanted to be a hero. But who couldn’t. The artists were there explaining the concept. Respect.
Last year, more than 91,000 people passed through the gates to see the sand sculptures. Since 2000, the society has donated more than $350,000 back to community groups from the money it raised during the exhibition.
Parksville hopes to host the World sand sculpting championships sometime soon.
Parksville is famous for some of Canada’s lowest tides. I cycled out to Rathtrevor Beach to wade the lowest tide of the year. It’s way, way out there.

AND … I believe these are the Brandt geese I’m always hearing about, but have never seen. Until now. 🙂

🙂
Though Canada Day celebrations are more restrained than 4th of July, it was still festive in small town Parksville, BC.
Fireworks over the water were excellent. And very well attended.
Though I’ve traveled 70+ nations, it was Canada where I chose to be born. For one thing, it’s the least racist nation IMHO.
