Rockin’ tipped me to Henning May’s band AnnenMayKantereit. (worst name ever?)
What I liked best is May’s vocals. So rough and soulful.

Music in YouTube videos
Back in the 1990s I edited a lot of VHS videos — gak 😕 — and the worst aspect was dealing with audio.
Now that video editing is my hobby, I’m finding that sound design is the most interesting part. Many video creators think it’s the most important part in 2022.
That could be true — BUT many folks watch video on their phones with audio muted. So I also edit to be presentable VIDEO ONLY.
Here’s the best introduction to the topic I’ve seen.

Oh My God – Adele’s video masterpiece
Actually, it’s Director Sam Brown and the video editors who created this masterpiece.
For me, the song is only OK.

Down in the bardo
There was nothing to hold while we let it go
We were empty, we were hollow
Shined with everything we were living for
And you see your soul
Like some picture show
Across Idaho
We were running through the autumn leaves
A couple kids just wearing out their jeans, running
Mary she’s our autumn queen
Watch her smoking cigarettes in the street
And down she goes
Cold she blows
Across Idaho
And down she goes
Cold she blows
Across Idaho
And there’s lights up in the north
And I ain’t wondering where you are
Now it’s white as snow
Watch the evening glow
Across Idaho
And there’s lights up in the north
And I ain’t wondering where you are
There’s lights up in the north

Kimbra MOCKS Traditional Female Gender Roles
Are little girls still brainwashed to dream about marriage in 2022?
Women who DECIDE to marry and have kids should do so. But it shouldn’t be a cultural expectation.
Kimbra is now age-31. Not married. No kids.

What’s Love Got to Do with It

MUSICAL – In the Heights
Mike recommended a terrific film musical, produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame.
In The Heights
Based on the stage musical of the same name, the film tells the story of a corner in the predominantly Dominican Washington Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan in New York City, where every member of the community pursues their dreams of a better life.
Corey Hawkins is my favourite. I got to like him first in 24: Legacy.
All tracks are written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Plenty of smart rap lyrics.
I love how it’s cut like a YouTube video.

Unfortunately, it was a box office bomb, grossing just $43 million against its $55 million budget and $200 million break-even point, though it was successful on HBO Max. Hopefully the success of the new West Side Story will motivate folks to check this out, as well.
It’s long at 143 minutes. Too long, I’d say.
YET I highly recommend you watch it. Fast forward through any slow sections. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, In the Heights holds an approval rating of 94% based on 351 reviews with an average rating of 8.3/10.
