Who would build a water bridge over a river?

It’s real. A 1km-long water bridge over the Elbe River in Germany joining the Elbe-Havel canal to the Mittelland canal near the eastern town of Magdeburg.

Have you heard of Terragen?
It’s software for generating real looking landscapes. This is not an actual mountain, but a generated image.

More terragen images by artist Luc Bianco.
Terragen™ still offers a free beta version if you want to try it.

I just “subscribed” to Warren’s RSS feed on his flickr photo account.
It works!
Whenever Warren adds photos to his public folder on flickr, my RSS reader knows about it.
This way I can stay on top of what is happening with the Silver Springs Sharks soccer team.
You too can subscribe to any flickr account. Click the link at the bottom of the page.
After taking photos at two events so far, It’s clear to me that barbecue will be an increasingly popular corporate team-building event.
Rockin’ Ronnie Shewchuk builds a full day around the theme of a barbecue competition. Teams of 4 company colleagues work together — to attempt to out cook every other team. And win a trophy with a pig on top!
The slow cooking movement is booming in Calgary. Many grillers will be adding a smoker to their backyard soon. Rockin’ most often uses a Weber 2820 Smokey Mountain Cooker.

Blue Nile Falls — also known as Tis Issat or Tissasat Falls. (Ethiopia)
The flow has been greatly reduced since a hydro-electric station started diverting the river in 2003.

Have you heard of the Chang Tang?
A part of the world half the size of the continental USA?
Me neither.
George Schaller made 11 trips between 1985 and 2001. I read a couple of his books so perhaps I did hear of the region.

The photographer is Galen Rowell, who’s work was admired by Ansel Adams. This was Rowell’s last adventure. He and his wife were killed in a plane crash in California.
National Geographic sponsored expedition to Chang Tang
Bruce Kirby pitched the idea to National Geographic and worked a year on the Chang Tang project. But NG went ahead without him.
Jane’s attempt to spring clean, tossing out her little-worn clothes, turned into a dress-up night for the kids.
Instead of being sent to the Sally Ann, Jane’s clothes are back in dress-up boxes. Still in the house.

Next week I will announce the besthike.com South America page. A resource for any hiker wanting to get started organizing a trek.
Best hikes & treks in South America.
My favourite photo on it was professionally published by Radek Tezaur. This is the Dientes Circuit in Patagonia, perhaps the world’s most southern major hike.
