Superstore – seasons 1 & 2

Love it.

What a genius concept. Making fun of stores like Walmart and Target. 😀

I’m definitely going to keep watching.

My favourite character by far is Canadian comedian Lauren Ash who plays Dina Fox.

Excellent too is comedian, actor, writer, and producer Colton Dunn as Garrett McNeil, a vet who’s in a wheelchair.

Sandra is pretty fantastic too.

… and Brett. Brett steals every scene.

Imposters – season 1

Fantastic TV.

The black comedy follows con artist Maddie, played by Inbar Lavi, who gets involved in relationships with men and women before leaving them “used and robbed of everything – including their hearts“.

Wikipedia

Uma Thurman is hilarious as Lenny Cohen, an assassin.

Though it only lasted 2 seasons, I’d agree with Rotten Tomatoes, 100% fresh.

“Imposters meshes slapstick comedy, top-notch writing, unexpected twists, and a noteworthy lead performance, with satisfying — and surprisingly ambitious — results”.

One scene is set in Port Townsend, WA.

I actually found season 2 to be something of a letdown. Did not finish.

Drop Shot by Harlan Coben

Book #2 in the Myron Bolitar series of novels.

Light reading. Funny.

Myron is a formerly renowned basketball player and is the owner of MB SportsReps (or simply MB Reps in later books), an agency representing sports stars and celebrities.

For reasons inexplicable, in each book he turns into some kind of murder mystery detective.

His best friend, Windsor Horne Lockwood III (better known as “Win”), is a billionaire psychopath — but, for some reason, joins Myron for the chase.

A former tennis protege is murdered at the US OPEN — and Myron’s client, who was playing at the time, is the main suspect…

Like the author, Myron is Jewish. In fact, Myron, in his early 30s, still lives in his parent’s basement.

Merry Christmas from Parksville

It’s coming up to 9 months I’ve been living at my parent’s place in Parksville on Vancouver Island.

A lovely part of the world.

CANCELLED my 1st flight since March

To Calgary.

Or was it Chernobyl? 😀

I was prepared. With a POINT 1 NANO mask. Supposedly N97.

Shield. And Shadyrays.

But Alberta is suffering badly from COVID. 1,828 new cases Friday and 15 additional deaths.

So I decided to stay on Vancouver Island at least through New Years.

Jerry Seinfeld – Is This Anything?

Like everyone, I loved the TV series.

Since then I’ve not had much time for Jerry Seinfeld. He’s just not as funny.

During the Pandemic Jerry dug into his box of one liners and threw them together into a short book.

He’s careful to say very little about the sitcom. Seems a sore point for him.

I did chuckle throughout. But it’s not essential reading.

Jerry’s thing is to see the funny side of everyday things. But I’d say George Carlin did it better.

TV comedy – Everything Sucks!

Awesome. Grade 10 students in 1996.  Nerds.

Jahi Di’Allo Winston so courageous and confident as Luke O’Neil.

Peyton Kennedy so vulnerable as Kate Messner, the daughter of the principal.

They literally attend Boring High School.

How perfect is that?

Everything Sucks! is an American comedy-drama web television series (2018) .. that parodies teen culture of the mid-1990s. …

The series is set in the real-life town of Boring, Oregon in 1996, and focuses on a group of teenagers who attend the fictional Boring High School as they proceed to make a movie together while dealing with issues such as finding their sexualities, mental health, and growing up.

One small thing I appreciated was the story NOT making a big deal of Luke and his Mom being Black.   Any actor of any race could have been cast in the part.

Sadly, the series was not renewed.

Never Have I Ever – season 1

If you liked Derry Girls, you’ll like this comedy series.

Never Have I Ever is an American coming of age comedy-drama television series starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher.

The comedy is partially based on Kaling’s real childhood story, growing up in the Boston area … about an Indian American high school student dealing with the death of her father. …

Diversity of cast is obviously one goal.  The only heterosexual white man with much air time is the hilarious narrator, professional tennis player John McEnroe.

The writing is excellent.  A lot of pop references.

Maitreyi is a natural.  She was picked from 15,000 applicants having put together her audition video at a local library in Mississauga using her mother’s camera.

Space Force (TV series)

I had high hopes for Space Force. After all, it was created by Greg Daniels and Steve Carell.

An easy hit.  Making fun of Trump’s egomaniacal Space Force.

But 40% on Rotten Tomatoes sounds about right. It’s lightweight. Fluff, not parody. And not funny enough to call a comedy.

I blame the writers.

Cast is excellent. Comedic acting good.

John Malkovich makes the show worth watching.  He got me through the 10 episodes.

Malkovich, like Bill Murray, can do no wrong in my book.  I can’t not not watch those two on screen.

The late, great Fred Willard plays Steve Carell’s father.  Hilarious, as always.

Certainly there are some excellent moments.  But too few.
