Canada Day in Parksville, B.C.

The population of Parksville is far fewer than 15,000 … but we must have had 15,000 at the Canada Day celebration. The beach was packed.

I was most impressed with fireworks.

Tiny little girls were dancing / celebrating / cartwheeling while watching the show. Very cute.

I caught 3 of the musical acts. All good.

Headliners were The Tragically Hip Experience. Very Canadian.

… Or maybe it was actually The Joe Cocker Experience. Very British. Anyway, entertaining.

Dad sold his boat

This was his 6th fishing boat.

He bought it in 2011 for $6700. Sold in 2019 for $5000. Not bad, though he’d put quite a few extras into it over those years.

Yvonne turned it over within 24 hours on Facebook Marketplace. That service worked well.

In the past they used Kijiji.

Dad’s still fishing. But will only go out on charters in future.

Mom’s 90th Birthday Party

Mom and Dad are doing well. Living independently in Parksville, B.C.

Doreen was born in Calgary 1929. Born right into the Depression.

Families had to be self-sufficient. They put home grown vegetables into jars to get through winter.

Her family had one pig and one dairy cow when she was growing up. Later she had her own horse in the city. It ate the neighbours flowers and walked back to the Indian Reserve when it got loose.

Though my family doesn’t normally celebrate birthdays, for 90 we made an exception. 🎂 🙂

Mom 2015

Yvonne hosted the party. Lasagna, garlic bread, salads and a wee bit of alcohol.

A good time was had by all.

cordless vacuum cleaner for Christmas

I gave my parents a  Makita 18V LXT Vacuum Cleaner.

It works well for small, fast clean-ups.

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

You need clean it frequently.

3 Ah is the best battery.

If you don’t already have a Makita battery or charger, the whole set-up will cost about C$200.

Thanks Markos and Keith for the idea.

Sand Pebbles Inn, Qualicum Beach B.C.

My brother Rob gave me a comped room night over the Christmas holidays with oceanside view.

Much appreciated.

That’s the promotion photo from my room.

Here’s the weather while I was there walking oceanfront.

Christmas dinner 2018

Rob and Yvonne hosted. Bev and Reg both contributed plenty of goodies.

As always, cards were a big part of the evening.

The food was GREAT. Traditional turkey dinner. A huge bird.

I ate too many desserts.

Reg’s home made chocolate covered candied ginger was the highlight for me.

Christmas Eve 2018

For some reason  🙂  Mom decided to host a burger night for Christmas Eve: steak, chicken and salmon.

It was delicious. 🍷

I bought an ice-cream cake at DQ for dessert. 🎂

Mom wanted a nuclear family photo for Gary McCharles who’s working on genealogy.

Ho Ho Ho.

Jill Prendergast’s Celebration of Life

I’m sad to be missing the event in Calgary. (I’ll be getting released from hospital. Hernia surgery.)

Jill was one of my favourite people. Jill was one of everyone’s favourite people.

My Mom, a close friend, was unable to travel to Calgary for it. But I helped her put together a remembrance letter.
