hundreds of great China photos

A while back, EastSouthWestNorth blog posted a series of touching photos meant to Humanize China. The series are divided into 3 sections: Survival, Relationship, and Desires. If you haven’t seen them – it’s well worth checking out.

newbie’s guide to Flickr

The best of the photo hosting services is Flickr.

Here’s a friendly introduction to the service:

Flickr is a popular photo-sharing and hosting service with advanced and powerful features. It supports an active and engaged community where people share and explore each other’s photos.

You can share and host hundreds of your own pictures on Flickr without paying a dime. There’s also a pro service that gets you unlimited storage and sharing for about $2 a month, making it one of the cheapest hosting sites around (more on that later).

Henry’s 11th birthday party

My buddy Henry turned the big 1-1 this past weekend.

His party was madness. It involved bushwhacking through mud and snow on private property in the greater Canada Olympic Park wilderness.

The party navigated by compass and doggerel poetry clues.

We lost the dog. One of our group got tangled up in barbed wire. Another fell ill.

A great birthday party by any measure.

best photo “slide show” EVER

Photographer George Lange calls this technique a “video flip book”.

Awesome.

You need high speed internet to watch it right now: PLAY video flip book

I MADE THIS VIDEO for a talk I gave at Photo Expo 2006 at the Javitts Center in NY. … My idea was to show images from the past year only.

I also wanted to show the digital flip book we do with our software at the end of every shoot. The music is the SONG “Dream Baby Dream” – by Suicide.

One of the main reasons I updated the theme of this blog was to PERFECT the interface with flickr.

Now I can search all photos on flickr that have an “attribution creative commons licence”, then post directly to this site without moving or resizing the image.

Very convenient.

Flickr is by far the best social networking site on the internet.

We got a DUMP.

Yesterday I was cycling. Today a foot of snow outside the door.

Like this guy in Montreal.

I am now on Facebook

I was not much impressed with MySpace.

I have done nothing with it since I joined May 2006.

But Facebook seems to be a quantum leap superior site for social networking.

Security is good. And Facebook is the number one site for hosting photos with 2.3 million pics uploaded daily. (I will keep mine on Flickr, for now.)

I already have 6 “friends”.
