NHL full games free on Google Video

Not sure I can bear to watch anyway. Calgary is in a huge slump.

But you can stream full-length NHL games and watch them on your own time. (In a very small, low resolution format.)

An experiment on the part of NHL. Will this increase interest, drive up TV viewership?

At the same time, the NBA pulled their videos from Google.

does TV cause autism?

Sounds crazy?

Child autism rates have been rising over the past few decades. What’s causing it?

autism.jpgGregg Easterbrook paints a pretty convincing argument:

Today, Cornell University researchers are reporting what appears to be a statistically significant relationship between autism rates and television watching by children under the age of 3.

The researchers studied autism incidence in California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington state. They found that as cable television became common in California and Pennsylvania beginning around 1980, childhood autism rose more in the counties that had cable than in the counties that did not. They further found that in all the Western states, the more time toddlers spent in front of the television, the more likely they were to exhibit symptoms of autism disorders.

great BMW TV commercial

This is advertising I want to watch.

Ireland/Davenport put together this TV commercial for BMW.

Shot in the Netherlands utilising the moving sculptures of world-renowned artist Theo Jansen, the commercial, entitled “Kinetic Sculptures” forms part of a broader campaign which serves to highlight BMW’s market leadership in the fields of technology and innovation.

Nancy Robertson – actor

Dana’s been schoolin’ me about Corner Gas, the Canadian sitcom set in Saskatchewan.

My favourite character is Wanda played by Nancy Robertson, the real life wife of star Brent Butt.

TV – the best news show

My favourite is CBC’s The Hour, with George Stroumboulopoulos.

I really like his machine-gun-chatter style. If he’s not the best journalist on TV, he’s certainly the best of those with facial piercing.

TV commercials too LOUD

I shopped for a great value TV for my parents. (Bought at Wal-Mart.) The only problem is that the volume of the commercials is often extremely LOUD.

I mean very LOUD.

What can we do?

I see one device advertised which promises to maintain a constant volume, automatically:

getting your news from The Daily Show

New research confirms what we already knew — The Daily Show is as “substantive” a source of US political news as the real news shows.

Using the entire half-hour programs as the basis of analysis yielded the same results: there was just as much substance to The Daily Show’s coverage as there was on the network news. And The Daily Show was much funnier, with less of the hype—references to photo ops, political endorsements, and polls—that typically overshadows substantive coverage on network news, according to the study.

The Daily Show is as substantive as the “real” news

Fox News is actually funnier than The Daily Show, but Fox is trying to be serious.

Arthur Black – comedian

My Mom treated me to an entertainment by Arthur Black.

He spoke just down the street at the Parksville City Hall. Black was on tour flogging his 11th book, Pitch Black.
Pitch Black

After the late, great, beloved Peter Gzowski, no other personality was more the voice of Canadian radio to me than Arthur Black. He retired to Salt Spring Island, BC 11-years-ago — but he is still in fine form, as sharp and witty as ever.

I had forgotten that Black first introduced the comedian who played Father Guido Sarducci who went on to Saturday Night Live fame. The Stephen Colbert of the 1970s, Sarducci posed as gossip columnist and rock critic for a Vatican newspaper.

worst referee of the year?

Ron Johnson seemingly hauled in a pass that would have put Calgary on the Toronto five-yard line. However, the pass was ruled incomplete and replays confirmed the call on the field.

Monsters and Critics

angry guyThat’s it. I am boycotting the CFL.

I watched one game of the recently successful Canadian Football League and suffered through an insanely bad (reviewed by replay) call by the referees.

In the dying seconds Toronto got a lucky call when it looked Calgary was sure to tie the game. What happened there? The media did not seem to cover the injustice. The Calgary players and coach did not react to the mis-call.

If I want fixed fights, I will watch professional wrestling.
