After all, at the end of the world as we know it WHY NOT invest in your home.
Well … my brother Rob did help a bit. Supplying the tools, paint and expertise.
But the unskilled labour — that was all me.
Pro tip – If looking for a tradesman count the fingers. Any with all 10 probably aren’t very quick at their job. 😀

I listened to the audio version of Martin Short’s 2014 autobiography — read by the author, of course.
Very funny. Plenty of name dropping. Embarrassing stories.
Martin Short is one of Canadian comedy’s greatest generation: Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Dave Thomas, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Eugene Levy.
Short remembers his favourite years as those with the Second City comedy troupe in Toronto. And playing whacky and weird SCTV.
He doesn’t remember Saturday Night Live all that fondly.
I enjoyed most Marty’s stories of his earliest years in the entertainment business. Short is 7-years older than me. I can relate.

With friends in Idaho, summer 2019 I saw Martin Short and Steve Martin LIVE in An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life.
It was hilarious.
That was Steve’s return to stand-up after decades.
Steve is age-74 now. Everyone of my generation loved his comedy. Indeed, I thought he was an overnight success — like Robin Williams.
Not so as I learned in his 2007 memoir Born Standing Up. Steve Martin paid his dues. He had many, many very hard years breaking into the business.
It chronicles his early life, his days working for Disneyland, working at low tier coffee shops and clubs as a comedy act … and the reason why he quit stand-up comedy altogether at the height of his fame in 1981. …
The audiobook is read by Steve. I recommend it.

The actress playing receptionist Elaine, Lucy Punch, is brilliant in the role. In fact the eclectic villagers are all entertaining.
But no racial diversity in Cornwall?
Before I started on the TV show I watched the 2001 movie called Doc Martin. Similar premiss. But Doc Martin is a much warmer and more charming character in the film.

Springfield Confidential by Mike Reiss
Ron loaned me a hard copy of Mike Reiss‘ 2018 book on his years working on The Simpsons. He was one of the first writers when the show started in 1989.
Hilarious. I recommend it.
I stopped watching The Simpsons back when every episode was controversial. They made fun of everyone and everything.
But I’m still a big fan. My Facebook avatar is Lugash, Lisa Simpson’s Gymnastics coach.

Peter Griffin was fatter and dumber. Family Guy mocked topics sacrosanct to The Simpsons.
Surprisingly, many on The Simpsons writing team were offended.
