Mexican Train dominoes

The favourite game of my family.

Mexican Train, also known as simply Trains, is a game played with dominoes. The object of the game is for a player to play all the dominoes from his or her hand onto one or more chains, or “trains”, emanating from a central hub or “station”. …

… Because of its simplicity and interaction, it can be played by nearly anyone, anywhere. Depending on the type of game you play, it can last from a single, 20-minute game to a 12 round game lasting hours. …

Board Game Geek

It’s the #1 Domino Game on the market today.

World Parrot Refuge, Coombs, B.C.

Boxing Day the McCharles clan headed for one of the highlights of Vancouver Island, the World Parrot Refuge.

The Refuge has over 800 parrots, a dedicated team of staff and volunteer carers, and 23,000 square feet of heated indoor free-flight aviaries with plans for 16,000 square feet of easily accessed outdoor flights for the warmer months. ..

It was a blast. Only $12 / person entrance fee.

Virtual Adoption is one way to sponsor a parrot. Another is to buy a parrot painting (VIDEO) … that’s a painting painted by a parrot, by the way.

a very Parksville Christmas

Mom was surprised and pleased to be able to get all 3 sons to Christmas out on the left coast.

… which one of the Bridges is that middle guy, again? 🙂

McCharles Christmas Eve

The McCharles clan are all on Vancouver Island, our first time celebrating Christmas in Parksville, B.C.

After picking up Randy and Val at the Comox Airport, the day seems to have been one long meal.

We had a few laughs, my Dad relating stories I’d never heard before.

In his youth, Dad had a buddy in northern Ontario who worked at a brewery. Every 3 months they cleaned out all tanks and vats, starting a fresh batch. … The boys went into the brewery on Friday night … and stayed until Sunday night.

On another bender weekend, Dad came back to town from working out of town … and bought a suit. By the end of that weekend the new suit was completely worn out, and he had somehow sold his prize Buick for only $100. … The details are still fuzzy.

Mom won our favourite bored game, Mexican Train.

t.c moore – Artist

My cousin t.c moore is an Artist and instructor out of Petaluma, California. She’s just launched a website showcasing her work.

… Using an array of natural materials, particularly nature’s detritus – horse hair, hoof clippings, wood shavings, teeth, egg shells, feathers, spider webs – I create work which celebrates the organic unity of all living things. My work is inspired by the Biophilia hypothesis, a term coined by E.O. Wilson which states that humans as a species have a universal love for the natural world. I feel we suffer from “nature deficit disorder” and one goal for my work is to translate my feelings of wonder and awe of the materials, cycles and processes of nature. …

I was born like this …

… I had no choice

A California cousin is doing a family history. Here’s a baby photo that came to light.

I had hoped to transform from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan. That hasn’t happened yet.
