I’ve had mixed feelings about Snowden himself. Watching the film was one way to learn more.
Sorry to say I ended up not much more enlightened. You can call him a a hero, a whistleblower, a dissident, a traitor and a patriot. All true. Certainly he’s a criminal.
I’d like to think I would have done the same thing … in his position.
Snowden’s “breaking point” was “seeing the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, lie under oath to Congress”. That’s shown in the film. Initially hopeful that Obama would improve things, ultimately he gave up on him.
For his role as Snowden, Joseph Gordon-Levitt pledged to donate his entire salary from the film to “help facilitate the conversation” about the relationship between technology and democracy …
Due to fear of interference by the National Security Agency, Stone decided to shoot the film mostly outside of the United States …
Snowden received mixed reviews from critics, but Gordon-Levitt’s performance garnered critical praise. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 61%
It’s very tranquil in 2016. I’d recommend you stay there if vacationing in Rio.
Babilônia was controlled for years by drug traffickers linked to the Terceiro Comando (Third Command) organization. In June 2009 police occupied the area without firing a shot. It’s been pacified and gentrified.
The film Tropa de Elite (2007) is about the police actions in Babilônia in 1997, before the visit of the pope to Rio de Janeiro, when the elite squad BOPE (Special Police Operation Battalion) is assigned to eliminate the risks of the drug dealers in a dangerous slum nearby where the pope intends to be lodged. …

It’s clearly based on Jim Cramer, host of the TV show Mad Money.
Sandy and I watched the final two (?) films in the series. They were better than I expected.
Donald Sutherland and Woody Harrelson are excellent. Julianne Moore and Philip Seymour Hoffman good too, of course. And I have to admit Jennifer Lawrence is quite believable.
“The Nice Guys” takes place in 1970s Los Angeles, when down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March (Gosling) and hired enforcer Jackson Healy (Crowe) must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. During their investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy that reaches up to the highest circles of power.
A surprising instant classic. Unpredictable and very funny.
Born 1957 I can relate to all the 1970s references. 🙂
