photos of Lincoln, Nebraska

Nice, rural College town. Reminded me in many ways of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

I took in the very good tour of the Nebraska State Capitol.

UPDATE: In an incredible coincidence, Jane is headed for the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln next week. I stayed there last week.

Minneapolis is great

Unlike Phoenix, which has no class or culture at all, that I could see, the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota are classic.

I stayed at the hostel in Minnie close to the Waldorf school:

I cannot verbalize why I like these cities (in less than the 3min I allot to write this post), I just do.

photos from Haida Gwaii

Talk at the coffee shop the morning I was in Charlotte City was all about rumours that the ferry to the mainland would be closed for a month or two this Spring. Major work needs done on the pilings, some say.

Old-timers (like old-timers everywhere) wrongly and profanely claimed they didn’t need the ferry. Life was better before the ferry came to Haida Gwaii.

At the granola health food coffee shop across the street, regulars were giddy with the idea of doing some tire-tubing behind a pick-up truck on the highway. All this snow is a novelty in a part of the world where glaciers never reached during any ice age.

We had some doubts whether the plane would land. It did.

I’ll be back for kayaking one day.

More falling water

Just testing the flickr photo sharing “blog this” function. Seems to work better than it did in the past.

From a recent hike we took in CAL-IF-ORNI-A.

World’s only spotted lake?

Have you heard of this?

Located in Osoyoos, British Columbia, “Kliluk, The Spotted Lake” consists of a very high concentration of minerals that includes among others magnesium sulphate, calcium and sodium sulphate. As the ambient temperature rises, the water in the lake evaporates, leaving the minerals to crystalize, which in turn forms numerous yellow pools.

Covering 38 acres, The Spotted Lake is privately owned, but is visible from Highway 3, 5.5 miles (8.8 kms) from Osoyoos.
