Do I need a drone?

Tried it once. Found it too complicated. LAWS too restrictive.

BUT — what about indoors?

Gymnastics Clubs would allow it. Of course I’d need an expensive one — something like the new  DJI FPV ( $1,299 plus accessories).

Apple Watch Camera Remote app

If you want to position your iPhone for a photo and then take the photo from a distance, you can use your Apple Watch to view the iPhone camera image and take the photo. You can also use your Apple Watch to set a shutter timer—this gives you time to lower your wrist and raise your eyes when you’re in the shot.

To function as a camera remote, your Apple Watch needs to be within normal Bluetooth range of your iPhone (about 33 feet or 10 meters).

Life is Short #MakeItCount

Nike gave this guy money to make a promotional video. He wasted it — flying himself and a cameraman buddy around the world. 😀

Though published 2012, YouTube creators are still studying the masterpiece for inspiration.

‘ Just a YouTuber ‘

6 months ago I still had a low opinion of those trying to make a living on YouTube.

It seemed a juvenile race to the bottom. I did not watch any of the top YouTubers. Not even my friend’s son, Cody Ko, who has 5 million + subscribers.

BUT — even then — I did follow a few favourite vloggers on HIKING and TECH.

Fact is, young people on YouTube and now TikTok are in the midst of a video editing revolution. Most future great film and TV directors are currently doing their own thing on social media.

Peter McKinnon, for example. In this fantastic 7 minute edit he pays tribute to the art form.

McKinnon is as skilled at video editing as anyone.

This is a GREAT YouTube video

Fast paced. Funny. Emotional. You are hooked in the first 10 seconds.

Much like the time Drake gave away a million dollars.

In this one, illegal Slovakian immigrant David Dobrik gives away money, cars, and EA gaming devices. It’s fun.

Video editing guru Hillier Smith feels it’s the best so far in 2020.

Here’s why.

shooting vertical videos

An old dog, I much prefer landscape videos.

But the whole generation who started with TikTok feel portrait is normal.

As an experiment, I shot and edited one VERT video.

YouTube is soon to launch a TikTok competitor called “Shorts”, but it hasn’t happened yet.

My BEST video, so far

December 1, 2020.

Or is it March 273rd ??

One #COVIDgoal of mine was to improve my video editing. I’ve spent many hundreds of hours working on it. Put together dozens of videos.

Not my best. Not my most important. But my favourite video so far is this glimpse into my daily coffee break at dawn Rathtrevor Beach.

If forced to show my work to real videographers, that’s the one I’d show.

In the past I was terrified of audio. My first inclination was to delete all audio. Replace it with a musical soundtrack.

But in recent weeks audio has been my favourite part of editing. Selecting the right music critical.

Here’s some state of the art videography. Pros attempting to duplicate big budget Hollywood cinematography with relatively inexpensive gimbals that hobbyists can afford.

my NEW MacBook Pro

A Mac geek, I sagely advised Rockin’ to NOT buy a first generation product.

Get the MacBook Air. It’s enough computer for 99% of the world.

#Don’tPracticeWhatYouPreach

Myself? I ordered a first generation SILICON MacBook Pro day 1. It costs CAD $400 more than the Air.

So far, I’m thrilled. 😇

It’s a speed demon.

The 1% who need the Pro are those wanting to video edit in 4K. Drinkin’ the fanboy Kool-Aid.
