Calgary cleanest city in the world

leave a comment »

According to a CNBC meaningless list:

That Calgary holds the No. 1 position on this list is even more impressive considering Calgary’s province Alberta actually leads Canada in per capita waste: 2174 pounds per person.

Facing a rapid economic and population expansion, Alberta revamped its sanitation system in the past two years with the Too Good to Waste program, which aims to decrease the amount of waste sent to landfills.

Additional efforts were being made to reduce construction and demolition waste through training, increasing recycling of materials (such as wood, asphalt, drywall, shingles and concrete), as well as financial incentive and disincentive programs.

Thanks Jenn.

Shout out to these guys who helped me with computer problems when I was out visiting the University in January.

hmmm …

Where’s the obesity?

Clearly the boss is biased against hiring anyone of the proper dimensions for information technology !!

Oh, … I eventually solved my computer problem myself, after at least a week of collective effort.

The Social Network … really?

It’s a good movie.

No question. Everybody agrees.

The acting was good. I was especially impressed with Justin Timberlake.

But if it wins the Academy Award for Best Picture, this will be the weakest to do so since Shakespeare in Love.

They got a main plot line of the movie wrong. Mark Zuckerberg’s had the same girlfriend since the early days of Facebook. He didn’t invent the site to pick up chicks.

John Long

John wasn’t able to get from Rotterdam to Calgary for the funeral. But he was able to talk via Skype to Jude, Ed Glaser and myself.

John hopes to be able to attend any memorial hike scheduled by the Glaser family summer 2011.

It was nice to catch up with John since I’d not seen him in about 5yrs. He’s been M.I.A.

Starting in May he has a working “sabbatical” with IBM in New York. … Actually the “sabbatical” is an Anglo-American concept not common in the rest of the world. He’ll actually be working.

Normally I’d have phoned Rob Glaser, handyman extraordinaire.

But Rob died in an avalanche last week. I’m trying to step-it-up. Make him proud that he taught me something over the past 40yrs.

… I fixed a lamp Rob.

Here’s the slide show video tribute edited by his son Michael and daughter Anna. A wonderful way to remember their wonderful Dad.
