Barbecue Academyⓒ – team building through cooking

From Rockin’

… It’s a day-long corporate teambuilding workshop that teaches participants about championship barbecue in a fun, relaxing atmosphere with plenty of room for socializing.

I think it’s the only event of its kind in the world. …

Barbecue Academy now booking into this fall!

His team won BEST BURGER IN THE UNIVERSE … or something like that. At Whistler recently.

baby Delaney 2wks old

I’m down in Idaho volunteering at Adventure Race Week (just ended) for Dave Adlard.

And volunteer coaching at Funtastics Gymnastics for his wife Lisa.

Those two have been slightly busy since Delaney arrived.

Microsoft ROCKS, Andy

Happy Birthday to my Adventure Racing buddy Andy, a mucky muck with Microsoft.

Happy Birthday Andy

As a present, I’d like to highlight all the things the Evil Empire MS has done right lately, starting with their new search engine.

Bing
Bing

I tried Bing and found it nearly as good as Google. That’s a huge improvement over the old Live Search.

Microsoft is already seeing a Bing bump in market share.

Famously incompetent in advertising, Microsoft has hit a sore spot in their recent Laptop Hunters Apple bashing TV commercials.

Gamers are abuzz talking about the recently debuted MS technology, the badly named “Natal” Motion Control for Xbox 36. Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

And I’m hearing great things about the next Zune, the MS iPod competitor.

I’m not yet hearing that “Microsoft is Cool”. But Andy is Cool.

Ron and Kate are in Calgary right now. He’s on the book flogging tour.

His latest cookbook — Barbecue Secrets DELUXE! — is the #1 cookbook in B.C. right now.

how do you CONNECT with people?

One of the best articles I’ve seen lately was published on a blog about “greatness” called Baekdal.com.

It gives an overview of the history and rapid evolution of information technology.

Here’s a sample slice from where we’re at right now.

People get information from TV, websites, blogs and social network sites. Oh, and the old people still cling to newspapers and magazines.

… But 2009 is also going to be the start of the next revolution. Because everything we know is about to change. …

The first and most dramatic change is the concept of Social News. Social news is quickly taking over our need for staying up-to-date with what goes on in the world. News is no longer being reported by journalists, now it comes from everyone. And it is being reported directly from the source to you – bypassing the traditional media channels.

I highly recommend you check out Baekdal – Where is Everyone?

I think the graphic is wrong, by the way.

Social News (e.g. Twitter) is not nearly as much the NEXT BIG THING as is shown above.

Some future evolution of Facebook or Friendfeed is the best way to CONNECT with people that’s been invented so far. Twitter is already a subset of those two vastly superior systems now.

Dana back in Gymnastics

My long time friend Dana Brass got married. Had a puppy. And a baby. Went on American Maternity (3 months). Then decided to leave her full-time job as a senior Cirque du Soleil casting scout to be a MOM.

Next decision in this long chain of life events?

She went home to Saskatchewan to coach at her old gymnastics club for a few months.

Coaching is a holiday, after all.

Welcome back Dana!
