An Unbelievable Story of Rape

An 18yr-old woman from Lynnwood, Washington was raped. Friends and family did not believe her. The police did not believe her. A few days later she felt pressured by the police to say that she might have dreamed it. Or made it up.

An UNBELIEVABLE STORY of RAPE

This is why some women are so reluctant to come forward after sexual assault. 😦

I agree with Gundamentalists … on a few things

I’m talking about American Gundamentalists.

gun nets

Gundamentalists take unrestricted right to bear arms as a tenet of religious or quasi-religious faith. The worst go into go into knee-jerk denial when approached with any studies or opinion that don’t fit their worldview.

I strongly disagree with those folks on most things because of unintended consequences. Though they deny it, many innocent people die of gun related violence in the USA.

But I do agree with gun nuts on a few things.

Around half of Americans support gun rights despite school shootings. In a Democracy, that opinion should be respected, even if I disagree.

We agree that hunters, police, military and sportsmen should have full access to firearms.

Many Gundamentalists agree that private businesses should have the right to restrict or allow firearms on their property. We can support or boycott those companies, if we choose.

We agree with Sedro-Woolley Police Chief Lin Tucker. Firearms training is a good thing. Firearms safety is important. Click through to his Facebook post if you want to read more.

watching Mr. Robot

Quite good. So far. I like the dysfunctional lead character. And the Tech perspective.

Mr. Robot is an American drama–thriller television series …

It stars Rami Malek as Elliot Alderson, a cybersecurity engineer and hacker who suffers from social anxiety disorder and clinical depression. Alderson is recruited by an insurrectionary anarchist known as “Mr. Robot”, played by Christian Slater, to join a group of hacktivists. …

Mr. Robot has received widespread acclaim from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a rating of 96% with an average score of 8 out of 10 based on 55 reviews. It set a record on Rotten Tomatoes as the only show to earn perfect episode scores for an entire season since the site began tracking television episodes. …

help people escape the north

I often brag that Canada is the least racist nation I know.

Aside from our First Nations peoples. The history of how Canada has treated the indigenous peoples is damn awful. 😦

I agree with Scott Gilmore. It’s long past time we admitted the Canadian system has never worked. We should dismantle the Reserves, paying out each Band member who opts to leave.

on a sad cycle of violence in remote communities:

…  the north itself is violent and has been forever.

Isolated regions always are. Australia’s Northern Territory has that country’s highest crime rate. The remote regions of Papua New Guinea are more violent still. Siberia is the most dangerous region in Russia. In Brazil, the state of Pará, straddling the undeveloped stretches of the Amazon River, has one of the highest murder rates in the country, rivalling the lawless favelas. …

The only way we can ever truly help the people of La Loche and hundreds of other remote communities like it, is to give those who want it a viable option to leave, to build lives in southern Canada, integrated into one of the world’s healthiest, safest, most rewarding societies. …

La Loche shows us it’s time to help people escape the North

Narcos season 1

Narcos season 1 … comprising 10 episodes, originally aired on August 28, 2015, as a Netflix exclusive. Set and filmed in Colombia, season 1 tells the true story of notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, who became a billionaire through the production and distribution of cocaine, while also focusing on Escobar’s interactions with drug lords, DEA agents, and various opposition entities. …

… season 2 will air in 2016. …

recommend the series. It’s violent. But astonishingly entertaining. What a story!

… the life of Pablo Escobar from the late 1970s, when he first began manufacturing cocaine, to July 1992, when he escaped La Catedral prison. …

Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar, leader of the Medellín Cartel … is believable. He’s from Brazil and I’m told his Spanish is not so believable.

escobar

Pedro Pascal as Javier Peña – a DEA agent – is very good.

Homeland season 5

… premiered on October 4, 2015, and concluded on December 20, 2015 …

Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison, an ex-CIA intelligence officer with bipolar disorder, now working for a philanthropic foundation in Berlin. …

The season includes several real world subjects in its storylines; including ISIS, Vladimir Putin, Bashar al-Assad, the Charlie Hebdo shooting,Edward Snowden and European migrant crisis. …

I admired seeing an American TV show move to Europe. It’s must watch, no matter how much Carrie irritates you. No other current television series offers as important commentary on the state of the world.

That said, Mike Sissons – who lived many years in Arab countries – tells me it’s controversial with Muslims. Too many stereotype characters. Mike’s not actually watched the show himself.

My feeling is that the show is quite balanced. It shows the stupidity of U.S. foreign policy.  There are no good guys in this show.
