I couldn’t care less about the World Cup … unlike most of the rest of the World.
But I love inspiring video. The TV ads are fantastic.
Here’s an epic by Beats by Dre, the recent $3 billion Apple acquire.
The five-minute spot opens with Brazilian superstar Neymar having a heart-to-heart conversation with his father before a soccer match, set over footage of favelas, coastlines and the team bus. …

I’m in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia right now volunteering at a Gymnastics course. In June the temperatures are mild. 🙂

They don’t really call it HOT here until about 45+.
President of FIFA Sepp Blatter:
“The Arabic world deserves a World Cup. They have 22 countries and have not had any opportunity to organize the tournament.”
Blatter also praised Qatar’s progress, “When I was first in Qatar there were 400,000 people here and now there are 1.6 million. In terms of infrastructure, when you are able to organise the Asian Games (in 2006) with more than 30 events for men and women, then that is not in question.”
On 2 December 2010, it was announced that Qatar will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. …
For the scheduled World Cup dates:
… the average daytime high in most of Qatar exceeds 50 °C (120 °F), the average daily low temperatures not dropping below 30 °C (86 °F). …
Having been there, I personally feel that Qatar could pull off this event. Nobody would die of heat emergency.
But the corruption scandal may well force a move to another nation.
Ex-FIFA VP Mohamed Bin Hammam allegedly paid $5 million in bribes to secure votes for Qatar, largely to 30 African soccer officials.
Tim Duncan is age-38.
The old, old Spurs are making yet another deep run into the Playoffs. Here’s how.
The San Antonio Spurs dynasty is a thing of beauty to basketball purists because they epitomize the definition of a true team. In a league where everyone focuses on individuals, they are living proof that ‘We’ is greater than ‘Me’.

Thanks Jake.
It was fun hanging out with the REAL athletes, once again.

Here are some of the Ironman South Africa competitors staying at my hostel in Port Elizabeth. All finishers.

Do you know Bo Jackson?
Vincent Edward “Bo” Jackson (born November 30, 1962) is a retired American baseball and football player. He was the first athlete to be named an All-Star in two major American sports, and also won the Heisman Trophy in 1985. …
He also ran a 40-yard dash in 4.12 seconds (hand-timed), which is still the fastest verifiable 40-yard dash time ever recorded at any NFL Combine. …
A (fluke) hip injury in January 1991 ended his football career and severely impaired his professional baseball career. …
He grew up poor and fatherless. And became one of the great success stories of American pro sport.
I saw the most wonderful documentary, You Don’t Know Bo – ESPN Films: 30 for 30.

Clearly one of the most “talented” athletes. Ever.
In the documentary many of his coaches tell that he was un-coachable. Day 1 he could could do … anything he tried. He couldn’t see the point of practice.
Bo will forever be known as a cultural icon and one of the most famous athletes of all time. This film will examine the truths and tall tales that surround Jackson, and how his seemingly impossible feats captured our collective imagination for an all-too-brief moment in time.
If you don’t know Bo, you’ve probably seen one of his famous Nike commercials. He and Michael Jordan were their first big stars.

Lance Armstrong:
AUSTIN, Texas – August 23rd, 2012 – There comes a point in every man’s life when he has to say, “Enough is enough.” For me, that time is now.
I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in winning my seven Tours since 1999. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a two-year federal criminal investigation followed by Travis Tygart’s unconstitutional witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for our foundation and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. …
LanceArmstrong.com
… Lance Armstrong says he will not fight charges brought by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, a surprising decision that sets the stage for the cyclist to be stripped of the Tour de France titles that turned him into an American hero. …
I’ve clung to hope that Lance is actually innocent, despite the dozens of top Tour riders of his era found guilty.
Ben Johnson, the sprinter, was a doper. Stripped of the Olympic Gold in the 100m in Seoul.
Coach Charlie Francis had all his athletes, including Ben, doping. Charlie claimed most of the top guys of the era were — including Carl Lewis.
Ben was retroactively stripped of his 1987 World Record — a mistake, I thought. Going back in history to re-test under new protocols is unfair. Unethical.
I’m sympathetic of Lance’s position.
Kings driven by Sutter and his pursuit of perfection
When Los Angeles Kings coach Darryl Sutter speaks, he’s sometimes hard to understand. He’s a tad soft-spoken, uttering sentences in low tones, prone to mumbling.
“I had no idea what he was saying when he first came here,” said defenceman Drew Doughty. …
If there’s one thing that unifies most Canadians, it’s despising all things Toronto.
I couldn’t contain my glee watching Newfoundland know-it-all Rex Murphy kick the Toronto Maple Leafs while they are down. On National TV.

Ouch. 🙂
This mockery almost made me forget that my Calgary Flames failed to make the play-offs. Again. And that the Edmonton Oilers finished last. Again.
