Jordan’s story

Jordan Chartier died July 30th, 2013.

On Tuesday his parent’s presented Jordan’s story to the Saskatchewan Mental Health Commission review.

Mom Lori:

… Jordan suffered from a deep clinical depression. And had been suffering for a very long time. …

I finished with a challenge to the group. I told them I believed with all my heart that Jordan’s death was absolutely preventable. That our fractured, underfunded, under resourced and quite frankly, fucked up mental health care system directly contributed to his death. …

Three binders of regrets…and a wall full of starbursts

Greg and Lori are hoping that Jordan’s death will help improve care for those with mental health issues in Saskatchewan.

my ambulance charge – $351.76

In December I spent 7 hours in the Emergency Ward of the hospital. Excellent and prompt treatment. I must have seen 10 different specialists. Had a CT scan.

In the end, it was concluded I suffer from Vertigo. … (I suffered from Vertigo twice, so far. There’s been no re-occurrence since December.)

In the end, I was charged ZERO dollars. Filled out no paperwork. ONLY showed them my driver’s license.

LOVE the Canadian Health Care system.  😀

At Christmas my family warned me that I’d be billed for the Ambulance. About $400.

I poohpoohed that. And flew to South Africa.

On my return to Calgary in May I found the bill waiting.

$351.76

Oh well. That’s still very inexpensive for excellent service I got in a medical emergency. I’m happy I don’t live in the U.S. of A.

I paid up.

Deadliest Animal in the World

Bill Gates:

What would you say is the most dangerous animal on Earth? Sharks? Snakes? Humans?

Of course the answer depends on how you define dangerous. Personally I’ve had a thing about sharks since the first time I saw Jaws. But if you’re judging by how many people are killed by an animal every year, then the answer isn’t any of the above. It’s mosquitoes. …

The biggest split is on Obamacare.

They are not all that far apart on Immigration and Education.

vaccines not perfect …

… but they are far, far better than the alternative.

When a global effort to end polio was launched in 1988, the disease crippled more than 200,000 children every year in India. Almost two decades later, in 2009, India still reported half of the world’s new cases — 741 out of 1,604.

The development of the Salk and Sabine vaccines helped lead to eradication of polio in the United States in 1979. In India, too, vaccination was critical. …
